Has anybody seen one of these?

It's a M44 Tracker with 2" - 2-1/2" barrel, 5-shot, .44 Magnum. I've seen them brand new, here and there online from $330 blued to 430 stainless. I can't find them anywhere on the Taurus site or in their '06 catalog. Is this a "new" item, or is it a discontinued item?
Taurus still shows the 4" barreled Tracker, 5-shot, .44 Magnum. That ain't too bad. A 4" 44 that has the size of a S&W L-frame; that's a neat concept.
Any info or speculation on the snubby Tracker is appreciated.

Is that a "stock" gun? It looks to me like it has been carved on. Notice the top strap. I would like to have a gun like that for use with .44 Special. Quite a coincidence because I found this after posting my topic "Custom Taurus" .

It baffles the snot out of me, but as far as I know, those are indeed factory. Other than the ones for sale on GunBroker and similar places, there's no trace of them every being made by Taurus.
If you go to the Taurus site, they do show some 44 Special revolvers, but when you click through they've all been discontinued. That is a real bummer.
The only other 44 Special snubs that I've seen is Charter Arms. Hogue does NOT make grips for Charter Arms that I've found. I checked into it because a guy at the Handloads forum said he was happy when he sold his 44 Special Charter Arms because "it was painful to shoot".

I bought a Taurus model 441 about 10 years ago, it's a dandy little .44 Special with bluing that reminds me of the old S&W 29's.
I owned a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special years ago, and loaded it WAY too hot. It actually broke through the original wood grips. I was pushing a Lyman 429421 260 gr. cast to 900 fps. in that little gun.

Ah, yes, the Charter Arms 44 Special. You broke the grips, but how was the gun otherwise? That price makes me almost want to try one. I'm a little scared (because of the price) because I can't find aftermarket grips, namely Hogue to fit it.

It was a good hide-out gun, or for camping/hiking/fishing, but not made to hold up to heavy use. The crane was similar to some of the flimsy inexpensive .22 rimfire revolvers, and allowed a lot of "wiggle" when the cylinder was open. However, it locked up tightly. I believe the present models are beefier and better finished than mine was. I carried it in my left boot while motorcycle touring. Mine was surprisingly accurate with cast bullets. I still have the original box and receipt, I think I paid $125 for it.
After I broke the grips, repaired them, and broke them again, I bought a set of Pachmayer grips. They reduced the gun's concealability, but greatly improved it's shootability.

So, my question now is- would you own or consider owning a Charter Arms revolver again?
I'm looking at Pachmayr's site and they show grips for the Charter Arms Gripper , Compac , and the Master List
The Charter Arms website is quite interesting too. They show grips including the clip grips (at the bottom). The neat thing is they offer a replacement hammer (no spur) for DAO conversions.
The price on those revolvers, the 44 and the 357 are awful good. They've got a 22 that looks enticing too.

Yes, I would buy one again. Since mine was stolen, I've acquired other concealables that serve the purpose, so it would depend on price.

The Charter Arms Bulldog, "Pug" (from what I've gathered, the "Pug" nomenclature signifies the 2" - 2-1/2" barrel of the modern manufactured version).

Mr. McPherson's take on the Bulldog http://www.levergun.com/articles/44_Special_Bulldog.htm

"Circa 2000, the Blazer 200-grain Gold Dot is the load of choice for self-defense. I have separately tested this load for penetration and expansion. Similarly, Cor-Bon now offers several very impressive loads for the 44 Special. Their 160 JHP might be a real winner in the self-defense category. This load exceeded 1100 fps in the 3-inch Bulldog. These loads are far superior to any of those described above. Look no further."
He agrees with me, although I think there are more choices since he wrote that, as I said in an earlier post.

This is a Special Release From Taurus, it is a Stainless Steel Model 44-C Compensated 44 Magnum 5 Shot Revolver with a 2.5" Barrel. That means that they are not made anylonger (but who knows, they may make another series at some point in time), but a number of dealers have them. I bought two of them. This is quite an amazing gun.

Thanks for that information. I was wondering about those. All the models that Taurus shows on their website that have been discontinued, but no mention of these... that was indeed strange.
I had seen mention of another limited/special run for some sort of competition/olympic-type stuff. It was a tricked out 38 Special that was oh-so sweet. Just a magazine article with no means of acquiring one myself. Everybody hates a tease!
